The Breakwater fort is a small fort built at Portland harbour to protect the harbour and bay. The Portland Breakwater fort is a 19th century fort which is unfortunately closed to the public and inaccessible on the outer breakwater. Although not accessible, it is easily viewable with a decent pair of binoculars from Newtons cove. See in the picture above, part of Portlands breakwater fort.
